DRZONKÓW (POL) – The 49th CISM World Military Modern Pentathlon Championship officially began with two key milestones: the technical meeting on September 22 and the opening ceremony on September 23 at the Sports and Recreation Center in Drzonków.
The technical meeting brought together distinguished representatives of the International Military Sports Council (CISM), the Local Organising Committee, and national delegations already present in Poland. The discussions focused on competition regulations, organizational protocols, and logistical frameworks to ensure the smooth running of the championship.
Among those addressing the assembly were Major Jan Henrik-Back, Official CISM Representative, Lieutenant Commander Andreas Eleftherios Idra, President of the CISM Sport Committee for Modern Pentathlon, and Lieutenant Colonel Jan Litwiniuk representing the Organising Committee. The meeting was also attended by Colonel Guilherme Keese Diogo Campos, member of the CISM Sport Committee; Anna Sulima-Jagiełowicz, Deputy Director of the Regional Sports Center in Drzonków; Mrs. Edyta Małoszyc, UIPM Technical Delegate; Daniel Dalecki, Pentathlon Director; and Marcin Horbacz of the Local Organising Committee.
Today, September 23, the opening ceremony marked the official launch of the competition. Delegations from 13 participating nations proudly marched onto the arena, accompanied by the Air Force Representative Orchestra from Poznań. Their stirring performance emphasized the solemnity of the moment and set the tone for a week of high-level competition.
The championship was officially declared open by Lieutenant General Marek Sokołowski, General Commander of the Polish Armed Forces. In his address, the CISM President Colonel Nilton Rolim underlined the vital role of military sport as a powerful tool for uniting soldiers from different nations and fostering international cooperation.
The ceremony concluded with a dynamic and spectacular display by the Military Police Special Unit from Warsaw, leaving a lasting impression on all present and adding to the sense of occasion.
With the formalities completed, the spotlight now turns to the athletes. Today, the competition gets underway with the women’s, men’s, and mixed relay events, promising exciting duels that will set the tone for the rest of the championship.
