ELVERUM (NOR) – Day four of the 25th World Military Shooting Championship delivered a stunning showcase of elite marksmanship, camaraderie, and history-making performances. With eight events contested on June 28, Norway once again led the way, while France, Germany, China, and Switzerland also climbed to the top of the podium. And with the final day still ahead, the excitement in Elverum is far from over.
The moment of the day came from Norway’s Jenny Østre Stene, who posted a world record score of 594 points in the 50m rifle 3 positions (individual), breaking the previous mark of 593 set by Switzerland’s Nina Christen. Just minutes later, teammate Jeanette Hegg Duestad matched that score with an equally brilliant performance. “It feels really good,” said Stene. “I didn’t know what the record was while shooting, but it felt great, so I just let the shots fly.”
Alongside Mari B. Løvseth (592), Stene and Duestad’s combined score of 1780 points secured Norway the gold medal in the team event, setting a new championship record. Switzerland and Poland completed the podium with 1763 and 1756 points, respectively.
In the 25m rapid fire pistol men’s individual, Pavlo Korostylov of Ukraine clinched gold with a score of 589, narrowly ahead of Germany’s Florian Peter (588) and France’s Jean Quiquampoix (587).
Germany’s Florian Peter, Oliver Geis, and Markus Kremser took top honors in the team event, scoring 1755 points, beating South Korea (1745) and Ukraine (1744). “It’s both my first gold medal and my first World Championship,” said a proud Kremser. “That’s really awesome.”
The French women’s team of Mathilde Lamolle, Héloïse Fourre, and Aurélie Giraud delivered an impressive victory in the 25m rapid fire pistol team event, finishing with 1714 points. China and Poland followed closely behind with 1711 and 1710.
In the 25m rapid fire pistol women’s individual event, Zhang Mengyuan of China captured gold with 581 points, edging out Germany’s Sandra Reitz (581, fewer inner tens), while Poland’s Agata Nowak secured the bronze with 579.
The home team continued its dominance as Rasmus Løberg, Odd Arne Brekne, and Hans Kristian Wear fired a total of 1722 points, winning the 300m military rapid fire rifle men’s team event with a new championship record. Switzerland finished second (1714) and Poland third (1698).
Switzerland’s Gilles Dufaux took gold in the individual 300m rapid fire rifle event, setting a new championship record with 586 points, ahead of Norway’s Løberg (583)
As the championship enters its final day today, June 29, four more individual titles remain to be decided. The 25m military rapid fire pistol for both men and women, the 300m military rapid fire rifle men, and the 50m rifle 3x20 women will conclude the competitive program. The championship will close with the prize giving and official ceremony, bringing to an end a remarkable edition marked by excellence, sportsmanship, and unforgettable moments.
