ELVERUM (NOR) - The third day of competition in Elverum delivered another thrilling chapter in this year’s World Military Shooting Championship, with elite shooters from Ukraine and France rising to the top in the 25-meter pistol events.
Former Olympic champion Pavlo Korostylov (UKR) returned to the top of the podium in the Men’s 25m Center Fire Pistol event. Demonstrating precision and calm under pressure, Korostylov posted a score of 589-28x, edging out Finland’s Sampo Voutilainen (586-20x), who had to settle for silver after a shoot-off against India’s Omkar Singh (586-17x), who took bronze.
Despite his victory, Korostylov admitted to carrying the weight of earlier mistakes: “Of course I’m pleased, but I made some serious mistakes in the team competition that still bother me. But now I’m where I need to be.”
On the women’s side, Mathilde Lamolle of France continued her golden streak by clinching the 25m Pistol Individual title with an outstanding 590-20x, equaling the CISM record. This marks her second gold medal of the championship, reinforcing her dominance on the range.
Austria’s Sylvia Steiner secured silver with a strong performance of 584-25x, while Poland’s Julita Borek claimed the bronze with 578-19x, fending off close competition from fellow French shooter Héloïse Fourré and Hungary’s Renáta Sike, both at 577.
With exceptional performances, Day 3 highlighted the continued excellence of seasoned shooters and set the stage for more thrilling contests in the days ahead.
