Former members of Yugoslavia compete for the 9th CISM Futsal Cup for Peace

BRUSSELS (BEL) - Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Slovenia will start next Tuesday (23) another clash between their soldiers. However, unlike the disputes of the past, the battle and the field are now completely different. The aim is to become this time the new winner of the 9th CISM Futsal Cup for Peace that will be held in Postojna (Slovenia) from 23 to 26 May under the auspices of the Slovenian Delegation to CISM.

Since 2009, the CISM Futsal Cup for Peace has been organized with a principle of rotation of the annual hosting and is only dedicated to the military personnel in active duty. The competition is based on the principle of mutual understanding and aimed at enhancing the peace-restoring effort among the six involved countries.

The success of the project has already been internationally recognized. Indeed, in 2009 in Monaco, the CISM Futsal Cup for Peace was one of the project nominees for “The Peace and Sport Awards 2009”, which was conducted by Peace and Sport, l’Organisation pour la Paix par le Sport, under the high patronage of HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco.

In 2016, the Croatian Delegation to CISM organized the 8th edition in the city of Split where Bosnia and Herzegovina won the competition for the third year in a row.
