The date of the 10th edition of the Linhas de Torres - Running Challenge is already set
TORRES VEDRAS (POR) - On March 6, the 10th edition of the Linhas de Torres - Running Challenge, to be held on April 15, was presented by the organizers in the Torres Vedras City Hall.
Created in 2013, this sporting event aims to promote military tourism and military sports. It also has a strong charitable component, with funds from the race going to the Association of Invalids of the Armed Forces.
The event also aims to pay tribute to all those who participated in the construction of the Linhas de Torres - considered the most important and effective military defense system in the country - and to those who fought for the defense of the country during the period of French invasions.
Composed of competitions of different degrees of difficulty, the Linhas de Torres - Running Challenge integrates mainly long-distance trail races, with some road courses.
This year, the event will include an ultra-marathon - individual / relay - between Vila Franca de Xira and Torres Vedras (100 km); a trail marathon, between Mafra and Torres Vedras (42 km); an individual race, with start and finish at ExpoTorres (10 km) and an individual walk, with start and finish at the National Convent of Mafra (6 km).
Teams from the Navy, Army, Air Force, Republican National Guard and Public Security Police participate in this event, as well as teams from other countries and our national military trail team. This international competition, called 1st Military Running Challenge, is organized under the aegis of the International Military Sports Council, of which Portugal is a member since 1956.
Several entities participated in the presentation of the event: the vice-president of the Torres Lines Route, the deputy director of National Defense Resources, the president of the Athletics and Marathon Commission of the International Military Sports Council, a member of the board of the Association of the Disabled in the Armed Forces, and the mayor of Torres Vedras.
