4th WMC Beach Volleyball 2023 - Competition Day 2, 3 & 4

Day 4 (18)

NEGOMBO BEACH (SRI) - After the last qualification matches of the 4th WMC Beach Volleyball on February 14th, the quarter-finals and semi-finals were scheduled for February 15th and 16th.

In the men's category, the two German teams continued their success in the elimination phase by winning their two quarter-finals.

Lukas Pfretzschner and Robin Sowa won in two sets (21/18 and 21/10) against the Colombian pair composed of Rojas Tellez Daniel Fernando and Franco Beleno Harold Sneyder. In the other quarter-final Paul Henning and Sven Winter also defeated in two sets Hood Al Jalaboubi and Mazin Al Hshimi from Oman (21/16; 21/11).

Day 4 (19)

The French Olivier Barthelemy and Samuel Cattet validated their ticket for the semi-finals by defeating the Sri Lankan pair ASM Fernando and MHAS Dharmapala (21/20; 21/11) while the brothers Quincy Aye and Calvin Aye were eliminated by the second Omani team (Ahmad Al Housni and Haitham Al Shereiqi), defeated in three sets by the French (21/15; 14/21; 15/11) and thus also joined the semi-finals.

In the first semi-final, the spectators could attend a 100% German duel of remarkably high level. It is finally Lukas Pfretzschner and Robin Sowa who won against their compatriots Paul Henning and Sven Winter in two sets (21/14 and 21/16) and they will have the heavy task to face Olivier Barthelemy and Samuel Cattet in the match for the gold medal. Indeed, the French pair has defeated the Omani Ahmad Al Housni and Haitham Al Shereiqi in two sets (21/14 and 21/18).

Day 4 (8)

In the women's category, the quarterfinals were the scene of a real demonstration of the host country, Sri Lanka, which presented three teams in ¼ final.

And, with three victories in three matches, the Sri Lankan delegation realized a real no-fault.

Day 4 (6)

It is first of all the pair Gunasinghe HNL and Priyamali MHHM who won against the French Priscilla Schermann and Maryline Chevalin (21/18; 24/22). Their compatriots MGD Bandara and AKT Lakshani also followed them with a victory against the Colombian Vasquez Mejia Paula Andrea and Munoz Lina Estefania (22/20; 21/8). The last Sri Lankan team (Prasadini JHD and Thushari JWP) also reached the semi-finals following their victory against the Dutch Yana Timmer and Stephanie Stienstra (21/13; 21/8).

The French Aline Chamereau and Clemence Vieira validated their ticket for the semi-finals thanks to their victory against the Dutch Ellen Treutker and Danisha Willems (21/16; 21/5).

Day 4 (15)

Unfortunately for the local public, the French pair composed of Aline Chamereau and Clemence Vieira was going to put an end to the dream of the spectators to attend a 100% Sri Lankan final. Indeed, the French took the best on the Sri-Lankan Gunasinghe HNL and Priyamali MHHM (21/13; 21/17). In the final, the French team will be opposed to another local pair, MGD Bandara and AKT Lakshani, who won in the duel against his compatriots Prasadini JHD and Thushari JWP (21/17; 21/15).

See you tomorrow for two finals that look explosive!
