3rd CISM World Cadet Games 2022 – Saint-Petersburg (RUS) - Competition Day 5

SAINT-PETERSBURG (RUS) - The final match of the men's volleyball tournament took place on August 10 as part of the 3rd World Cadet Games and saw two of the strongest teams of the Games, Iran and Russia, face each other in the decisive match. Indeed, both teams were undefeated before starting this great final.


After losing the first set, the Russian team came back strongly in the second set and equalized. Iran regained the lead in the third set but it was without counting on the perseverance of the Russian Cadets who equalized at two sets all.

In the final set, Iran, despite the support of many local fans, managed to defeat the host country and won the title (15/13). Russia took the silver medal and Venezuela finished on the third step of the podium.


In orientation, two races were on the program for this last day of competition in the park of Sosnovka: the Relay Men and Women. And it was the Russian delegation that took both gold medals.

The Russian men's team, composed of Ivan Vakhitov, Leonid Chesnikov and Pavel Fomichev won the race in front of Belarus and Venezuela while the Russian cadets Sofia Kopylova, Nadezhda Sobyanina and Anastasia Kovalenko won in front of Belarus.


The VIFC pool also hosted the last day of swimming competition with 8 finals on the program for the day. The spectators once again witnessed a real show of strength from the host country which took 100% of the medals.

Alina Egorova was the fastest in the 50m Backstroke Women as well as Mikhail Bondar and Ekaterina Nomerovkina, respectively winners of the 50m Freestyle Men and Women.
In the 100m Breaststroke Men, Amir Khalitov won the title, followed shortly after by Varvara Klimenok in the 100m Butterfly Women and Tatiana Kamayeva in the 200m Freestyle Women. The last individual race was won by Dmitry Tsaritsyn, winner of the 200m Backstroke Men.


The Russian cadets also took the first place in the 4x100m mixed relay finishing the race in 4:15'03'' ahead of Belarus and Venezuela.

In military pentathlon, the Obstacle Relay competition, one of the most attractive disciplines in military sports, was the closing event of the competition.


The Belarus team, composed of Dzmitry Khobnia, Raman Dziaruha, Rastsislav Padbiarozski and Aliaksei Karpovich, won the men's relay ahead of Venezuela and Syria, while the Russian relay team of Marina Andreeva, Victoria Vinogradova and Aleksandra Timofeeva won ahead of Venezuela.


In shooting sports, four medals were to be awarded during this last day of competition. Russia and Belarus shared the honors with two new gold medals for both nations.

Marek Kalbaska (BLR) took gold in the 25m Military Rapid Fire Pistol Men ahead of Maksim Andreev (RUS) and Siarhei Chabatarenka (BLR) and Yuliya Stychynskaya (BLR) did the same in the women's competition ahead of her compatriot Valeryia Rymchonak and Diana Carolina Arzola Alvarez (VEN).


The 200m Military Rapid Fire Rifle Men and Women events were won by Ivan Bakulin and Viktoria Tikhonova (Russia). Bakulin is ahead of Andrey Zakharov and Nikita Sohrin while the women's podium is also 100% Russian with Tikhonova ahead of Anastasia Rusakova and Anastasiya Kudryavtseva.

Finally in Summer Biathlon, Maksim Biaheza (BLR) takes the gold in the Men's Mass Start 6km ahead of Savva Tosenko (RUS) and Maksim Nikiforov (RUS) and Marina Ogar offers the host country the last gold medal of the competition by winning the Women's Mass Start 5km.


The awards ceremony was held at the end of the final day of competition in the presence of the representatives of the delegations, the member of the European Steering Committee, Major-General Oleg Botsman, Head of the Military Institute of Physical Culture, and Colonel Artem Gromov, Head of the CKSA.

A press conference was also held on August 11 at the TASS press center in St. Petersburg to summarize the results of the 3rd World Cadet Games held in St. Petersburg from August 4 to 12.


Nicolay Pankov, Secretary of State and Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, Major-General Maikano Abdulahi, CISM VP Africa, as well as Private Daniil Garin (RUS), Corporal Alina Egorova (RUS), Syrian Army Cadet Ivana Suleiman and Venezuelan Army Cadet Yolanda Gudino Toro took part in this press conference.


"The 3rd World Cadet Games took place in a good, friendly and festive atmosphere. 576 athletes representing 20 countries competed and 94 medals were awarded. I would like to thank the CISM representatives for giving Russia the opportunity to organize this event. I would like to thank all our friends, partners and rivals for the camaraderie and friendship that was shown throughout these Games. Friendship through Sport", said Nikolai Pankov.

VP Africa Major-General Maikano Abdullahi also thanked all the organizers, stressing how capable Russia is in conducting the competitions: "Russia is a country that very often organizes CISM competitions. The way Russia handles the holding of such events suggests that military sport carries an important message to the world. Everything that has been put in place during these Games gives me confidence that you are ready to organize large-scale events! ".


The athletes participating in this press conference explained their feelings about these Games, their emotions and impressions, and thanked the organizers and all those who participated in the organization of the Games.
