EDMONTON (CAN) – The first classification games (for places 5 to 8) started yesterday, May 31, in Edmonton (CAN) in the framework of the 19th WMC Volleyball Women & 36th WMC Volleyball Men.
USA, who took the last place of the Pool B, was facing the host country Canada, third of the Pool A. It was a very tense and suspenseful game, but unfortunately for the local fans, the US team finally won the tie break after four wonderful sets (18/25, 25/23, 25/22, 24/26, 15/11). In the other game, France (3B) easily defeated the Netherlands (4A) in three sets (25/12, 25/16, 25/19) and will thus face USA for the 5/6 place game. The 7/8 place game will feature Canada and the Netherlands
USA and Kenya were facing for the first game of classification for the place 5/7 of the female tournament. After losing the two initial sets 17/25, the Kenyan team reacted in the third set they won after a hard fight (27/25). Unfortunately for the sole African representatives of the tournament, USA continued the path towards victory as they won the last sets 25/16.
