SILVER AND BRONZE FOR THE GAROZZO BROTHERS

ACIREALE (ITA) – For the days 3 & 4 of the 45th WMC Fencing in Acireale (ITA), the Italian team did a great job with three new gold medals.

Two medalists of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games took part to the men’s foil event in Acireale: Daniel Garozzo (ITA), gold medalist in the individual foil event and Enzo Lefort, silver medalist in the men’s foil team event. Daniel Garozzo was eliminated in semifinal by his teammate Alessio Foconi (15/14) while in the other semifinal Enzo Lefort defeated the Korean Kwang Hyun Lee (15/11). For the greatest delight of the audience, the local Alessio Foconi won the title with his victory against Lefort in the gold medal game (15/10)!

In the men’s epee event, Enrico Garozzo, Daniel’s brother, qualified for the final after his semifinal win against Alan Fardzinov (RUS) (15/9) while the future winner of the event, the French Mathias Biabiany, defeated Maksym Khvorost (UKR) in the other semifinal. Unfortunately, for the audience, Enrico Garozzo, who won the silver medal in the men’s epee team event at the Rio 2016 OG, could not do anything against Biabiany in the gold medal game. 15/9 for the French fencer and a deserved gold medal!
