35th WMC Wrestling – Tehran (IRI) – Opening Ceremony




THERAN (IRI) – The 35th World Military Wrestling Championship kicked off yesterday in Tehran with the Opening Ceremony which took place Tehran's Azadi Sports Complex. The Opening Ceremony was attended by Colonel Luiz Fernando Medeiros Nóbrega, CISM Sports Director and Official CISM Representative of the event; Sergeant Mindaugas Ežerskis, Member of the CSC Wrestling; Brigadier-General Jamshid Fooladi, Chief of Delegation of Iran to CISM; Colonel Reza Bagheri, Delegate of the Iranian Delegation; Brigadier General Mohammad Sharafi, Head of the Iranian Armed Forces Wrestling Board; as well as Iranian officials and international and national high-level authorities.




Colonel Luiz Fernando Medeiros Nóbrega took the floor to welcome the participants: “It is a pleasure to be here in Tehran, Iran, and to be so warmly welcomed by the community. It is evident that a great deal of work has gone into the preparations for the competition, as well as the cultural and social events. I would like to thank Major General Nasirzadeh, Deputy Chief of Iran General staff, for his efforts and those of his personnel. I would also like to congratulate the Chief of the Iranian Delegation to CISM, Brigadier-General Jamshid Fooladi, and his team, for their work in ensuring that even the smallest details have been considered. I know it will be an excellent week.”




“Now, speaking about the level of performance of our athletes in the World Military Wrestling Championships, I’m sure we will attend a high-level championship, with Olympic-level athletes participating in the competition.”, concluded the Official CISM Representative.




The Opening Ceremony was directly followed by the Preliminary and Technical Meeting of the event!


A total of 300 athletes from 21 countries will take part in the competition in two freestyle and Greco-Roman categories until November 25.




Iran and Russia teams have sent strong teams to the CISM World Championships and many World and continental medal winners of these two teams will compete in Tehran.
