CISM pays homage to Heydar Aliyev at World Military Wrestling Championship Opening

 

BAKU (AZE) - The 36th World Military Wrestling Championship, organized by the State Border Service and the Ministry of Defense and Youth and Sports of Azerbaijan, received distinguished guests from the International Military Sports Council. On November 28, the representatives, alongside the championship organizing committee and team management, honored the revered memory of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev at the Alley of Honor, where laurel wreaths and roses were solemnly placed.

 

In the Martyrs Alley, a poignant tribute unfolded as the memory of courageous sons and daughters who sacrificed their lives for the freedom, independence, and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan was commemorated. Flowers were laid in front of the "Eternal Flame" monument, symbolizing the eternal gratitude for their sacrifices.

A press conference followed, addressing the upcoming championship's opening ceremony set to take place at the "Border Guard" Sports Center of the State Border Service from November 27 to December 3.

 

During the conference, it was underscored with immense pride that this prestigious international competition aligns with the 100th anniversary of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev. The meticulous organization of the event was acknowledged, attributing the success to the visionary sports policy implemented by President Ilham Aliyev, the Victorious Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, and First Vice-President Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva, which has elevated Azerbaijan's standing as a global sports nation.

Highlighting the significance of the event, it was emphasized that the official guests at the championship include the leadership of the International Military Sports Council, high-ranking military officials, and distinguished figures from the international sports community.

 

The World Championship, featuring freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling, will see the participation of 176 athletes, including 46 women, from 18 countries. Notably, 222 athletes and an international panel of 12 professional judges will contribute to the diverse and competitive atmosphere.

 

Media representatives were briefed on the ongoing consideration of all technical aspects related to the competition, with preparations advancing rapidly. The participants in the championship were wished success in their respective competitions.
