CISM Athlete of the Year 2025 Award

The CISM Athlete of the Year 2025 Award aims to identify and acknowledge the most noteworthy sporting achievements. The selection process takes into account eligibility, fair play, personal empathy, discipline, adherence to rules, and self-behavior. Through this selection, we seek to honor athletes who exemplify and promote CISM values, thereby contributing to the increased visibility of CISM.

Eligible candidates for this prestigious award include both male and female individuals actively serving in the military, having participated in CISM events of World Level Sports, specifically during the CISM World Military Championships or CISM Military World Games.

The evaluation period encompasses the CISM Championships calendar year, spanning from January 1st to December 31st, 2025. This comprehensive timeframe ensures a thorough assessment of athletes' performances and contributions throughout the specified year.

The CISM General Secretariat adheres to the procedures outlined in CISM Regulations Article 6.10. In 2025, we received 22 nominations from the CISM Sport Committees of Category A Sports that hosted a World Military Championship in the same year.

To select the male and female athletes of the year 2025 from the pool of 22 nominees, we underwent a meticulous 5-month process, following these steps:

1. 1. Online Voting: From December 20, 2025, to February 13th, 2026, conducted on the CISM website
   2. Selection Commission (15–17 February 2026)
   3. Board of Directors Approval (18-22 February 2026)
   4. Award Ceremony at the 81st CISM General Assembly and Congress from 01 to 09 May 2025 in Monaco
       

During the online voting, one female and one male athlete will be chosen. In the subsequent step, a Selection Commission will meticulously review the records of three male and three female candidates, proposing the most deserving candidate per gender to the Board of Directors for the ultimate approval.

The votes are open from December 20 2025 until February 13 2026 (midnight, Belgian time).
