Message of the CISM President on the occasion of the International Women's Day 2021
BRUSSELS (BEL) - On the occasion of International Women's Day 2021, Colonel Hervé Piccirillo, CISM President and Commander of the National Defense Sports Center, has a message for women around the world!
Celebrating women in military sport
On this day of 8 March, the International Military Sports Council joins the United Nations and the world to celebrate International Women's Day. This year's theme is " Female Leadership: For an egalitarian future in the world of Covid-19".
It celebrates the tremendous efforts made by women around the world to shape a more egalitarian future and recovery in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, which has once again highlighted the critical importance of women's contributions in our modern society.
Sport is one of the vectors for the promotion of gender diversity and inclusion and CISM strives to put in place initiatives to ensure equitable development for all through military sport.
This can be seen in particular in the number of women participating in the Military World Games, which has increased considerably, from 12% in Rome during the first WMG in 1995 to 22% in Mungyeong in 2015, with the last WMG in Wuhan in 2019 having 33% of female participation.
Since its creation and in the spirit of the UN Charter, CISM has been fully committed to ensuring equal rights between men and women and has a Women in CISM Commission.
The road to full equality is a long one, but rest assured that, more than ever, we are working towards an egalitarian, sustainable and peaceful future with equal rights and opportunities for all.

Celebrating women in military sport
En ce jour du 8 mars, le Conseil International du Sport Militaire s’associe aux Nations Unies et au monde entier pour célébrer la Journée Internationale des femmes. Cette année, le thème de cette journée est le « Leadership féminin : Pour un futur égalitaire dans le monde de la Covid-19 ».
Il célèbre les efforts considérables déployés par les femmes partout dans le monde pour façonner un futur et une relance plus égalitaires à la suite de la pandémie de Covid-19 qui a une nouvelle fois mis en évidence l’importance primordiale de la contribution des femmes dans notre société moderne.
Le sport est l'un des vecteurs pour la promotion de la mixité et de l’inclusion et le CISM s’efforce de mettre en place des initiatives permettant d'assurer un développement équitable pour tous par le sport militaire.
Cela se traduit notamment par le nombre de femmes participant aux Jeux Mondiaux Militaires qui s’est considérablement accru passant de 12% à Rome lors des 1ers JMM en 1995 à 22 % à Mungyeong en 2015 avec lors des derniers JMM à Wuhan en 2019 la participation de 33% de femmes.
Depuis sa création et dans l'esprit de la Charte des Nations unies, le CISM est pleinement engagé pour assurer l'égalité des droits entre les hommes et les femmes et il dispose d’une Commission des Femmes au sein du CISM.
Le chemin pour une égalité totale est long mais soyez assurés que, plus que jamais, nous travaillons à un avenir égalitaire, durable et pacifique avec les mêmes droits et des chances égales pour toutes et tous.
