AMSTERDAM (NED) - The 2nd Military Challenge Rugby 7’s unfolded in Amsterdam from June 1 to June 6, 2024, featuring exhilarating matches and intense competition among top rugby sevens teams from five nations: Korea, France, Ireland, Netherlands, and the USA. Hosted at the Amsterdam Rugby Club (ARC), the championship kicked off with an enthusiastic start, highlighted by a vibrant Opening Ceremony on June 3, officiated by Brigadeer General Jobse.

 

The tournament commenced with Day 1 on June 4, showcasing thrilling performances across both men’s and women’s categories. In the men’s division, France exhibited dominance with standout victories, including a commanding 62-0 win over Ireland and a 43-0 triumph against Netherlands. The USA also displayed formidable form, securing wins against South Korea (24-5) and Ireland (40-7). Meanwhile, South Korea bounced back with a strong 49-12 victory over Netherlands, showcasing their resilience.

In the women’s competition, France mirrored their male counterparts' success, notching impressive wins such as a 38-0 shutout against Ireland. The USA women demonstrated their prowess with victories over Netherlands (20-7) and Ireland (27-5), setting the stage for a dynamic tournament.

 

Day 2, on June 5, continued with compelling matchups. France and the USA maintained their momentum in both men’s and women’s categories, securing crucial wins. The competition intensified with close contests like France’s 17-12 victory over South Korea in the men’s division and Ireland’s hard-fought draw (10-10) against Netherlands.

The tournament reached its climax on June 6 with the finals. In the women’s gold medal match, France dominated, defeating the USA 19-0 to claim the top prize. Meanwhile, in the men’s final, the USA emerged victorious with a 21-10 win over France, showcasing their tactical prowess and resilience throughout the tournament. South Korea secured the men’s bronze with a resounding 45-12 win over Netherlands, while Ireland clinched the women’s bronze with a 19-10 victory against Netherlands.

 

The event concluded with a celebratory BBQ and evening festivities, reinforcing the camaraderie and sportsmanship that defined the championship.
